J&K Approves Filling Up Of Leftover Vacancies In Nursing And Paramedical Colleges

In a significant move that brings relief to the management of approximately 150 nursing and paramedical colleges, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has granted approval for filling up the remaining vacant seats in these institutions. This decision comes after the completion of centralized counseling by the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE).

Addressing Admission Challenges

The nursing and paramedical colleges, predominantly in the private sector, offer a substantial number of diploma and degree seats. However, the introduction of a new admissions system through BOPEE following the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories in 2019 resulted in negligible admissions for the past two academic sessions.

Recognizing the need to address this issue, the Administrative Council (AC), chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, approved the filling up of leftover seats in various courses, including M.Sc/B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, B Pharmacy Course, and various Paramedical Courses. This process will be carried out by the respective institutions themselves, based on merit and strictly adhering to the eligibility criteria and Standard Operating Procedures established by the government.

Promoting Sports Education

In another significant decision, the Administrative Council approved a 50% hike in honorarium for 2,417 'Rehbar-e-Khel' physical education teachers employed by the Youth Services and Sports Department. This decision was based on the recommendation of a high-powered committee constituted in 2021 under the leadership of the chief secretary.

The enhancement in honorarium aims to motivate and encourage these teachers to further promote and popularize sports activities in schools across Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative is expected to contribute to the overall development of sports in the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration's decisions to fill vacant seats in nursing and paramedical colleges and increase the honorarium for 'Rehbar-e-Khel' teachers demonstrate its commitment to addressing critical issues in education and sports. These measures are expected to have a positive impact on the quality of healthcare education and the promotion of sports in the region.
