Jammu and Kashmir Congress Leaders Address Political and Security Challenges Amid Rising Terrorism
On Friday evening, Tariq Hameed Karra, the Congress president for Jammu and Kashmir, engaged in discussions with senior party leaders and candidates from Jammu. The focus was on the political and security landscape following recent elections. Karra voiced serious concerns about the surge in terror incidents post-election, urging a more robust strategy involving the newly elected government to combat terrorism and ensure citizen safety, according to a party spokesperson.

The meeting also involved the chairman and members of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress fact-finding committee. They gathered suggestions aimed at strengthening the organisation down to the booth level. During these discussions, Congress candidates shared their insights and experiences from the election, highlighting significant challenges they encountered. This feedback was crucial for understanding the party's organisational structure and recent election activities.
Security Concerns and Strategic Measures
The leaders strongly condemned recent terror attacks, including an ambush on an Army vehicle in Gulmarg. They expressed deep shock over the loss of lives. The meeting underscored the necessity for heightened vigilance and a comprehensive security approach. Karra emphasised that ensuring citizen safety should be a top priority for all involved.
Karra addressed the party by stating, "The Congress remains the only secular and democratic force capable of countering the divisive agenda of the BJP." He highlighted that despite election outcomes, Congress remains a formidable presence in Jammu, having garnered thousands of votes in each constituency. This statement reinforced the party's commitment to its principles and objectives.
Commitment to Key Issues
Karra urged party leaders to maintain strong connections with grassroots workers and address common people's issues with the government. He stressed that both the coalition government and Congress are dedicated to prioritising issues like restoring statehood with safeguards for lands and jobs, tackling unemployment, and re-evaluating the Darbar Move.
During this gathering, Karra also explored political developments while receiving feedback on constituency-level matters. This included insights into organisational structures and recent election activities. Such discussions are vital for shaping future strategies and addressing key challenges faced during elections.
The meeting concluded with a call for unity among party members to effectively tackle pressing issues. By focusing on citizen safety and organisational strength, Congress aims to address both immediate concerns and long-term goals in Jammu and Kashmir.
