Jamia Millia Islamia Postpones Entrance Tests for Jammu and Kashmir Students Due to Ongoing Conflict

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has adjusted the dates for its entrance exams initially planned for May 10 and 11, specifically for students from Jammu and Kashmir. This decision was made due to the current circumstances affecting the region, prioritising student safety and well-being.

Jamia Reschedules Tests for J-K Students

The entrance exams for various programmes in the 2025-26 academic year started on April 26 and are set to finish by May 31. While tests for some courses are scheduled on May 10 and 11, students from Jammu and Kashmir will receive a new date. Other candidates will follow the original timetable.

Impact of Operation Sindoor on Exam Schedule

The rescheduling follows Operation Sindoor, a military action by Indian forces targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This operation, initiated on May 7, was a response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities, including 25 tourists.

Due to heavy shelling by Pakistani forces over three days, mass evacuations occurred in Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts. Thousands of civilians were relocated to safer areas as a result of these hostilities.

Requests from Student Organisations

The decision to postpone exams came after appeals from students and groups like the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association and AISA. They submitted a memorandum to JMI's administration, urging for exam postponements and the creation of exam centres and hostels in Jammu and Kashmir.

JMI stated, "JMI announces rescheduling of the Admission Tests to be held on May 10-11, 2025 for students of Jammu and Kashmir." The university emphasised that this change considers the ongoing situation and prioritises student welfare.

While the situation remains tense due to recent military actions, JMI's decision aims to ensure that affected students can participate in their entrance exams without additional stress or risk. The university continues to monitor developments closely.
