Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns As Vice President Of India, Cites Health Concerns
Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has tendered his resignation from office with immediate effect, citing medical advice and the need to prioritise his health. The resignation, dated July 21, 2025, was submitted to the Hon'ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and is in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
In a formal letter addressed to the President, Dhankhar expressed his "deepest gratitude" for her unwavering support and the "soothing, wonderful working relationship" they shared during his tenure. He also extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers, praising their cooperation and support, which he described as "invaluable."

Reflecting on his time in office, Dhankhar wrote, "The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon'ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished and embedded in my memory."
Describing his tenure as a period of deep learning and honour, Dhankhar expressed gratitude for the experiences and insights he gained while serving as the Vice President in what he called "our great democracy."
He noted with pride India's remarkable economic achievements and global rise during this "transformative era," and described his service during this time as "a true honor." As he steps down, Dhankhar conveyed full confidence in India's future, stating he is "filled with pride in Bharat's global rise and phenomenal achievements" and holds "unwavering confidence in her brilliant future."
Jagdeep Dhankhar signed off his letter to President Murmu with "the deepest respect and gratitude."
His resignation marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian politics. A replacement for the post of Vice President is expected to be announced following due constitutional procedure.
