Jabalpur Cracks Down on Firecracker Shops: 41 Sealed for Licence Violations
Jabalpur administration seals 41 firecracker shops for non-compliance with license norms, prioritizing public safety after the tragic incident in Harda.
In the aftermath of the tragic incident in Harda, Madhya Pradesh, where an explosion and fire at a firecracker factory claimed the lives of 11 individuals and left over 200 injured, the Jabalpur district administration took swift action to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Inspections Conducted
On Wednesday, Jabalpur Collector Deepak Saxena and Superintendent of Police Aditya Pratap Singh conducted thorough inspections of manufacturing units, warehouses, and shops dealing with firecrackers and explosive materials across the district. During their inspection, they discovered 41 firecracker shops located in the Kathunda area that were blatantly disregarding licence conditions.
Non-Compliance with Norms
The officials found that these shops had failed to maintain proper records and lacked essential safety measures, including the absence of proper security arrangements, fire NOCs, and record-keeping systems. In light of these shortcomings, Collector Saxena ordered the immediate sealing of the non-compliant firecracker shops.
Strict Adherence to Norms Emphasized
Collector Saxena emphasized the importance of adhering to licence conditions and safety norms to prevent any untoward incidents. He warned that shopkeepers who continue to flout the regulations will face severe consequences, including the closure of their establishments.
Additional Inspections
The collector and SP also inspected a factory manufacturing sparklers in Manegaon, which was found to be operating without the requisite clearance from the Pollution Control Board. The collector directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on the factory, which spans over six and a half acres.
Comprehensive Investigation Underway
The district administration is conducting a thorough investigation into all 137 shops and godowns dealing with firecrackers and explosive substances in Jabalpur, all of which possess valid licenses. The aim of this investigation is to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and prevent any potential hazards.
Ongoing Medical Treatment and Search for Missing Individuals
Meanwhile, more than 100 individuals injured in the Harda blast continue to receive treatment at various hospitals across Madhya Pradesh. Tragically, two individuals remain missing following the incident, and search efforts are ongoing.
The Jabalpur administration's prompt action in sealing non-compliant firecracker shops demonstrates its commitment to ensuring public safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
