Omar Abdullah Convince US Diplomats To Relax - Here's Why
The discussion included US diplomats such as Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs Graham Mayer, First Secretary Gary Applegarth, and Political Counselor Abhiram, along with NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and the party's chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq. The meeting, which covered various issues related to Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted Abdullah's push to reconsider the current travel advisories, as per PTI reports.
Abdullah stressed the need for updated travel advisories to attract global tourists and showcase the beauty and culture of Kashmir. He encouraged the diplomats to visit the region with their families as a gesture to build confidence among potential visitors from the United States and other countries.
Currently, several countries, including the US, have issued travel advisories advising against travel to Jammu and Kashmir due to concerns over terrorism and civil unrest. The latest advisory, issued in July 2024, urges US citizens to exercise increased caution in India and avoid the Jammu and Kashmir region, except for the eastern Ladakh area and its capital, Leh, as per media reports.
Abdullah's meeting aimed to address these concerns and promote Kashmir as a desirable destination for international tourists, hoping to ease restrictions and boost the region's tourism sector.
