J-K: Alam, Geelani put under house arrest

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday, April 16 placed separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest ahead of his rally in South Kashmir's Tral on Friday.

Sources say that Masarat Alam and some other seperatists are also under house arrest. The government of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had denied permission to separatists for rally.

Earlier Geelani, Alam and other separatist leaders were booked for their "provocative activities" and for hoisting the Pakistani flag in Hyderpora. [J-K BJP demands immediate arrest of Geelani, Alam]

Hurriyat (G) spokesman in a statement issued to Kashmir dispatch said that late evening police party reached Geelani's Hyderpora residence and placed him under house arrest.

"The huge deployment of police personals has been made around the residence of Geelani and a police vehicle stands blocking the main entrance gate of the pro-freedom leader", he said.

Police informed that Geelani about his house arrest and said that he can't move out from his house.
