Jammu and Kashmir Congress Urges Immediate Restoration of Statehood and Aid for Shelling Victims
The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has urged the swift restoration of statehood to the Union Territory. This call comes just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to inaugurate the first Vande Bharat train in the region. The party also seeks a special package for those affected by Pakistani shelling along the borders during last month's Operation Sindoor.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) working president Raman Bhalla addressed a press conference, urging clarity on statehood restoration. "The central government is talking about restoration of statehood at an appropriate time, but how long the people have to wait for the fulfilment of this demand," he stated.
Demands for Equal Rights and Security
Bhalla questioned why Ladakh receives rights and constitutional safeguards not extended to Jammu and Kashmir. He also raised concerns about the government's ability to identify those responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack. The attackers remain at large and are suspected in three other attacks over 18 months.
Regarding recent border bombings, Bhalla demanded action from the Centre to protect residents. He called for a special package for affected families, including proper relief, rehabilitation, underground bunkers, recruitment drives, and safer plots for border residents.
Railway Expansion and Political Accountability
The Congress leader also urged Modi to extend the new railway line to Poonch, Kathua, and Bhaderwah-Kishtwar. Additionally, Bhalla asked Modi to address remarks made by two BJP MLAs against the Indian Air Force and Sonia Gandhi's family. "Modi should rein in the loose cannons in his party," he said.
The Congress party's demands highlight ongoing concerns in Jammu and Kashmir. They stress the need for statehood restoration, equal rights, security measures, and political accountability. As Modi prepares to visit, these issues remain at the forefront of regional discourse.
