ITR Filing Deadline Extended Till January 15, 2025
The Income Tax Department has pushed the deadline for the Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme 2024 to January 31, 2025. Initially set to conclude on December 31, 2024, this extension provides taxpayers with more time to settle minor tax disputes without incurring a 10 per cent penalty for late submissions.
Introduced in Budget 2024, the Vivadase Vishwas scheme offers a resolution for tax disputes by allowing taxpayers to pay a reduced amount on contested sums. For applications submitted by January 31, 2025, participants must pay 100% of the disputed tax and 25% of any disputed penalty or interest.

Extended Timeline for Better Compliance
If applications are filed after February 1, 2025, taxpayers will be required to pay 110% of the disputed tax and 30% of the disputed penalty or interest. This extended timeline aims to enhance compliance and lessen financial strain on participants.
The compliance system is straightforward and follows basic procedures. Taxpayers declare their intent to resolve disputes using Form-1. After successful payment, the Income Tax Department issues Form-2. To avoid penalties, taxpayers must make payments within 15 days of receiving Form-2.
Encouraging Transparency in Tax Resolution
This extension underscores the government's active role in simplifying tax resolutions and reducing legal battles. Taxpayers are encouraged to use this additional time to settle disputes, avoid extra taxes, and support a transparent tax environment free from conflicts.
The streamlined process makes compliance and dispute resolution more accessible for taxpayers. By adhering to these guidelines, individuals can efficiently resolve their tax issues while contributing to a more transparent system.
