INX Media Case: Delhi HC extends protection from arrest given to Chidambaram till Sep 28
New Delhi, Aug 1: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday extended protection from arrest given to former Union Minister P Chidambaram till September 28.
The High Court had granted interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram till August 1 in INX Media case on July 25.
The central bureau of investigation on Friday, July,19, had filed a fresh chargesheet, naming P. Chidambaram as a co-accused in the Aircel-Maxis case.
Sixteen other people, including government officials - both serving and retired, were also named in the chargesheet. The senior Congress leader's role had come under the scanner of investigating agencies in the Aircel-Maxis deal of Rs 3,500 crore and INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore.
The Aircel-Maxis deal case, which emerged out of 2G spectrum cases, pertains to a grant by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel.
