Internet services have been suspended in two districts of Assam’s Karbi Anglong region after fresh clashes linked to an eviction drive, an official said. The restriction follows violence during confrontations between different groups in the area.

The suspension covers districts described by officials as part of Karbi Anglong, including West Karbi Anglong, where security personnel were injured. Authorities said the decision aimed to stop further tension after violence reportedly broke out when rumours spread during the eviction-related operation.

Images from West Karbi Anglong showed injured security personnel sitting inside an ambulance on 23 December 2024. The clashes were allegedly triggered by circulating rumours during the eviction drive. Officials have not shared how long internet services in the affected Assam districts will remain blocked.
