UP Jail Inmate Death Sparks Murder Allegations by Wife Against Her Family

A woman claimed on Monday that her husband, who allegedly committed suicide in jail, was framed by her family in false kidnapping and rape cases. She stated that they had eloped and married, leading to the accusations. She also alleged that he was killed in prison.

Murder Claim in UP Jail Death

The 24-year-old inmate was found hanging inside Mau district prison on Saturday. His family initially refused to take his body, according to Ballia Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir. However, officials later confirmed that the family agreed to receive the body by evening.

Family's Allegations and Reactions

The deceased's uncle echoed the wife's claims, alleging that his nephew was murdered in jail. The inmate's wife insisted that the police registered a false case against her husband based on her family's complaint after they eloped and married in a temple.

Circle Officer City of Mau Anjani Kumar Pandey stated that the inmate's body was found hanging inside the jail, and prima facie it appeared to be a suicide. He added that further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death.

Authorities' Response

The body arrived at the inmate's village on Monday after a post-mortem examination. Initially, his family refused to accept it. Later, local Ubhaon police station in-charge Vipin Singh said, "On the persuasion of administrative and police officials, the deceased's family received the body on Monday afternoon and performed the last rites."

Additional District Magistrate Devendra Pratap Singh and Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Jha visited the spot. They assured the family of financial assistance from the government and promised a thorough investigation into the matter. Singh added that necessary action would be taken following the probe.

The incident has raised concerns about custodial deaths and alleged framing in false cases. The authorities' commitment to investigating these claims will be closely monitored by both the public and media.
