US Congressman Shri Thanedar Disputes Trump's Claims on Indo-Pak Conflict and Political Mileage
US Congressman Shri Thanedar criticised President Donald Trump on Monday for claiming credit in halting the conflict between India and Pakistan. Thanedar accused Trump of using the situation for political gain. During a discussion at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, he stated that India and Pakistan are capable of resolving their issues independently without US intervention.

Thanedar, who represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, has introduced seven articles of impeachment against Trump. He emphasised that neither India nor Pakistan sought US mediation. "I don’t think there was any basis for the announcement made by Trump. He only wanted to seek mileage out of it, so he made the announcement," Thanedar remarked.
India's Response to Pahalgam Attack
Following the Pahalgam attack, where terrorists killed 26 people, India launched 'Operation Sindoor' targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. Thanedar noted that India's response was justified and measured. He added that Pakistan should not have reacted to India's actions.
On May 10, India and Pakistan reached an agreement to cease hostilities after four days of drone and missile strikes. Indian government sources confirmed that the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) from both countries agreed to halt all military actions without any third-party involvement.
Trump's Claims and Reactions
Trump claimed his administration prevented a "nuclear conflict" between India and Pakistan. He suggested that America would engage in significant trade with both nations if they ceased hostilities. However, Indian sources refuted any US mediation, asserting that the ceasefire was a bilateral decision.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump offered to assist India and Pakistan in finding a "solution" for Kashmir. He credited Washington for facilitating the "historic and heroic decision" to end the conflict. However, India maintains that Kashmir is a bilateral issue with no room for third-party involvement.
Criticism of Trump's Policies
Thanedar criticised Trump's immigration policy, describing it as detrimental to the US, a nation built by immigrants. He advocated for reforming outdated immigration rules. Thanedar also accused Trump of seeking constant media attention, stating, "He cannot sleep if there is no mention of him in the 24-hour news cycle."
Thanedar reiterated that there was no war or ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He dismissed Trump's claims as unfounded, stating, "America had no role in it in stopping the conflict. India too denied any such thing." Thanedar believes Trump's announcements are often driven by his desire to remain in the spotlight.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan while underscoring differing perspectives on international mediation. Despite Trump's assertions, both nations continue to address their issues independently without external interference.
