IndiGo Hires Independent Experts To Sort Out Schedule After Mass Flight Cancellations

IndiGo is bringing in an external aviation specialist to investigate the recent wave of flight disruptions that hit travellers across India. The airline has hired a US-based consultancy to examine what went wrong, identify the root causes of the cancellations, and recommend steps to stabilise operations.

The disruption began on December 2, when IndiGo cancelled hundreds of flights across its domestic network. Crowded terminals, long queues and confused passengers were reported at several major airports. Thousands of travellers saw their plans delayed or cancelled, raising fresh concerns about IndiGo flight status and schedule reliability.

IndiGo flight status probe: independent consultant to review disruptions

On December 12, 2025, IndiGo said the Board had cleared the appointment of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC. The consultancy, led by Captain John Illson, will independently study recent IndiGo operational issues. The firm will conduct a root cause analysis and present a detailed assessment directly to the airline's Board.

IndiGo said in a statement, "Captain Illson brings more than four decades of aviation experience across the FAA, ICAO, IATA and major global carriers. With an illustrious track record in global air transport, he brings extensive expertise in global aviation strategy, customized consulting, safety leadership, setting international standards, and new aircraft technologies," and added, "The objective is to conduct an independent root cause analysis of the recent operational disruption, besides opportunities for improvement."

Regulatory angle and IndiGo flight status review details

The airline's internal review of IndiGo flight status comes while government scrutiny is increasing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation are already examining the large-scale disruption. Officials are looking at how the cancellations were handled and how badly passengers were affected nationwide.

IndiGo said the expert review would start as soon as possible, without giving a fixed timeline. The airline expects Chief Aviation Advisors LLC to submit a comprehensive report once the analysis is complete. The findings are likely to guide operational decisions as IndiGo works to stabilise IndiGo flight status.
