IndiGo Flight Tailstrike: Plane Returns To Airport After Major Incident
An IndiGo aircraft encountered a tailstrike during takeoff from Delhi airport on September 9, 2023. No injuries were reported, and investigations by the DGCA are underway to determine the cause.
An IndiGo aircraft experienced a tail strike while departing from Delhi airport, resulting in damage to its tail section. The incident occurred on September 9, as the flight was en route to Bengaluru.
Images reveal multiple white dents on the aircraft's blue-painted tail, indicating a significant impact.

The term "tailstrike" refers to an event where an aircraft's tail contacts the runway during takeoff or landing. Such incidents can be hazardous, potentially causing structural harm, particularly to the rear pressure bulkhead. This area is crucial as it seals the pressurised cabin.
Immediate Actions and Safety Measures
Upon noticing the issue, the pilot promptly notified Air Traffic Control (ATC). The ATC then granted permission for a safe landing. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among passengers or crew members during this incident.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Delhi airport authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. As part of their protocol, the DGCA has temporarily removed the crew from duty while they determine the cause of the incident.
Passenger Arrangements and Airline Response
Following the event, passengers were safely deboarded from the aircraft. Alternative travel arrangements were made for them to continue their journey. As of now, IndiGo has not released any official statement regarding this occurrence.
This incident underscores the importance of safety protocols and quick response measures in aviation. Investigations by relevant authorities aim to ensure such events are thoroughly understood and addressed to prevent future occurrences.
