India's 'Operation Sadbhav' Soars: Lifeline to Flood-Ravaged Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam
India Responds to Asia's Deadliest Typhoon of the Year
India has launched Operation Sadbhav, sending emergency relief supplies to Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam as the three countries grapple with severe flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Asia this year. The typhoon, which originated from the South China Sea, has devastated the region, killing over 170 people in Vietnam and around 40 in Myanmar, while displacing thousands.

Indian Air Force Deploys C-17 Globemaster for Relief Missions
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has mobilised its C-17 Globemaster aircraft for critical Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Laos and Vietnam. The operation was coordinated from Hindon Air Base, where the precise loading of relief materials was executed to ensure timely delivery to the affected areas. The C-17 Globemaster, with its extensive range and substantial cargo capacity, was selected for its ability to transport large quantities of aid quickly and efficiently.
For Vietnam, a 35-ton consignment was sent, including essential items like water purification equipment, containers, blankets, kitchen utensils, and solar lanterns. Meanwhile, Laos received 10 tons of urgent supplies, consisting of generators, hygiene products, mosquito nets, blankets, and sleeping bags.
Indian Naval Ship INS Satpura Delivers Aid to Myanmar
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that 10 tons of aid-including dry rations, clothing, and medicines-were dispatched to Myanmar aboard the Indian naval ship INS Satpura. "India launches #OperationSadbhav. Demonstrating our solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is dispatching aid to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos," Jaishankar said on X (formerly Twitter).
The Indian Navy worked in coordination with the Eastern Naval Command to load the supplies at Visakhapatnam for a rapid mobilisation of relief materials to Yangon, Myanmar. Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal highlighted the Navy's swift response to the crisis, emphasising their ability to mobilise on short notice to deliver humanitarian aid.
India's Commitment to Regional Disaster Relief
The Indian government's Operation Sadbhav is a significant demonstration of India's commitment to providing humanitarian aid during natural disasters in the region. With Typhoon Yagi causing widespread devastation, India's rapid deployment of aid showcases its solidarity with its neighbours and its ability to respond efficiently to emergencies. The collaborative efforts of the IAF and Indian Navy have ensured that crucial supplies are reaching the affected populations in a timely manner, helping them recover from one of Asia's deadliest storms in recent years.
