India's Defence Exports Exceed ₹24,000 Crore Amidst Global Trade Challenges And Tariff Issues

India's defence exports have surpassed ₹24,000 crore, highlighting the strength of its defence sector. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently commented on this achievement while addressing an event in Madhya Pradesh. He also took a subtle dig at US President Donald Trump regarding tariffs on Indian goods, suggesting that some are displeased with India's swift progress.

Singh noted that certain countries are envious of India's rapid development. He remarked, "There are some people who are jealous of India's rapid development. They think, 'we are the boss of all.' They cannot accept how quickly India is moving ahead." His comments come amid trade tensions between India and the US, with Washington imposing higher tariffs on Indian exports.

Trade Tensions and Tariffs

The US has imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, which India has labelled as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable." Singh mentioned that efforts are being made to make Indian products more expensive globally to reduce their competitiveness. He warned that if Indian-made goods become pricier than foreign ones, global buyers might turn away.

Despite these challenges, Singh expressed confidence in India's unstoppable progress towards becoming a major global force. He stated that no power could prevent India from achieving this status. The defence minister highlighted the shift from relying on foreign suppliers to producing many defence items domestically.

Domestic Production and Exports

"With the speed at which India is progressing, I can say with full confidence that no power in the world can stop it from becoming a major global force (vishwa shakti). As far as the defence sector is concerned, earlier things were made abroad and whenever we needed them, whether it was aircraft, weapons, or anything else, we used to buy everything from other countries," said Rajnath Singh.

He further elaborated that many defence items are now manufactured within India by Indians themselves. These products not only meet national requirements but are also exported to other nations. This shift signifies India's growing self-reliance in the defence sector and its ability to compete internationally.

The remarks by Singh underscore India's commitment to strengthening its domestic manufacturing capabilities while navigating international trade challenges. As India continues to expand its influence globally, it remains focused on protecting its national interests amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics.
