Indian Embassy Actively Supports Undocumented Workers in Libya Amid Ongoing Challenges
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Indian Embassy in Tripoli is actively monitoring the situation of Indian workers in Libya. These workers travelled without proper documentation, and efforts are underway to facilitate their return. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that the embassy is coordinating with Libyan authorities to secure exit permits for these individuals.

Reports indicate that the workers were promised employment at a cement factory. They arrived in Benghazi via Dubai but faced issues due to inadequate documentation. "When they landed, there were some issues regarding their work... we came to know of these difficulties... our Embassy in Tripoli is active," Jaiswal explained during his weekly briefing.
Embassy's Assistance and Coordination
The Indian Embassy has been proactive in assisting the workers by providing essential supplies like food and daily necessities. The Charge d'Affaires in Tripoli met with the workers on November 4 to assess their situation and offer support. "And, we have given them a helping hand, we have arranged for their food, for their daily living articles," Jaiswal added.
Due to the lack of proper documents, obtaining exit permits is taking longer than usual. However, once these permits are secured, the embassy will ensure the workers can return home safely. The embassy remains in contact with both the workers and their employers to manage the situation effectively.
Efforts for Exit Permits
The process of securing exit permits is ongoing, as it requires coordination with Libyan authorities. "The exit permit is taking a little time because they had gone there without proper documentation," Jaiswal noted. The embassy is committed to resolving this issue promptly.
Currently, the embassy is closely following developments and maintaining communication with all parties involved. Their primary goal is to ensure the safe return of these workers to India once all necessary formalities are completed.
The Indian Embassy's efforts highlight its commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad. By working closely with local authorities and providing essential support, they aim to resolve this challenging situation efficiently.
