The SHS campaign is primarily aimed at promoting an eco-friendlier railway system. It involves not only railway employees but also passengers and other stakeholders who are keen on making a difference. With its extensive network spread across every corner of India, Indian Railways plays a pivotal role in supporting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission.

This year's campaign marks a significant collaboration between different government departments as it is jointly launched by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs along with Ministry of Jal Shakti. The activities under SHS have been seamlessly integrated into daily routines under Swachhata Pakhwada or Cleanliness Fortnight.

Garbage Free India: Theme for SHS Campaign 2023

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for clean surroundings, this year's theme for Swachhata Hi Sewa is 'Garbage Free India'. This reflects an ambitious goal to significantly reduce waste generation and ensure proper disposal mechanisms are put in place throughout our country.

Indian Railways has made considerable strides towards this objective since implementation began back in 2014. According to statements from the ministry, there has been noticeable improvement in terms cleanliness levels compared to previous years before initiation of these campaigns.

Indian Railways: A Green Mode of Transport

The railway ministry also emphasized the eco-friendly nature of Indian Railways. With its vast network, it caters to millions of passengers each day while leaving a minimal carbon footprint compared to other modes of transport. The SHS campaign is just another step towards enhancing this green image by ensuring cleanliness across all stations and trains.

In conclusion, the Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign has been received enthusiastically by both employees and passengers alike. This initiative not only aims at maintaining cleanliness but also fosters a sense of responsibility among citizens for their surroundings. It's evident that the Indian Railways, with its massive outreach, can play an instrumental role in driving such nation-wide campaigns forward and contribute significantly towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a cleaner and greener India.
