Indian Railways Announces Special Train Services For Mahakumbh Mela 2025 To Assist Devotees
Indian Railways is gearing up for the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 by introducing three special trains between Katra and Prayagraj. Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed this arrangement, highlighting the first train's departure from Katra on January 24 and its return on January 26. This initiative aims to facilitate devotees attending the event.
North Central Railway (NCR) is also preparing to manage the influx of pilgrims by operating over 300 trains, including 80 special services. An NCR official stated that these arrangements are in place to ensure smooth transportation for those arriving in Prayagraj. The railway authorities have completed preparations, including crowd management and security measures.

Special Train Services for Devotees
The Chief Public Relations Officer of NCR, Shashi Kant Tripathi, mentioned that unreserved short-distance regular trains will start from January 13. He added that long-distance special trains began operations on January 1, with ring rail services commencing on January 10. These efforts are part of a comprehensive plan to accommodate the large number of visitors expected during the Maha Kumbh.
Tripathi further elaborated that more than 80 Mela Special Trains will be operational, bringing the total number of trains in service to approximately 300. This extensive network aims to facilitate passenger movement efficiently. With Makar Sankranti approaching, inward special train services have also been initiated.
Crowd Management and Security Measures
To support the Kumbh operations, staff from across India have been deployed in Prayagraj. This includes around 4,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 10,000 from the Government Railway Police (GRP). Officials from various departments are also stationed there to ensure smooth functioning.
Regarding crowd management, several restrictions have been implemented. Dedicated entry and exit points have been established at stations to maintain unidirectional movement and prevent crisscrossing. Ticket counters and Yatri Ashray Sheds in the Mela area are operational to assist passengers effectively.
