Indian Army Jawan hacked to death in suspected naxal attack

In a separate case, the NIA filed a chargesheet against the naxalites following an encounter. The security forces following the encounter had recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition

A Jawan of the Indian Army was hacked to death by naxalites from the banned CPI Maoist in the insurgency hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The deceased has been identified as Panni Betti, a resident of Bijapur. He was hacked to death by unknown persons on February 20 near the Belchar village under the Bhairamgarh police station limits of Bijapur.

Vetti was on leave and reached Belchar to attend the wedding of his cousin. As per report he was attacked with axes and other sharp weapons, after which some passers-by found his body near Belchar.

Although no pamphlet or banner has been found at the spot, the villagers suspect that this could be the handiwork of the naxalites.

The deceased had recently completed his training in Visakhapatnam, from where he went to attend the marriage of his cousin.

Earlier in the day, an armed naxalite and also attacked and killed two personnel of the Chhattisgarh police posted in the Bortalav camp near the Maharashtra border in Rajnandgaon.

The opposition BJP has raised the issue of naxalites with the ruling Congress on many occasions. Four BJP party workers have already been killed by naxalites in the last month alone.

NIA chargesheet:

In another development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had filed a chargesheet in the Bogla-Pangur 2022 attack case.

According to reports, the chargesheet was filed against Kawasi Ganga alias Kawasi Anil. The case was originally registered by the Chhattisgarh police in Modakpal, following which the NIA took over the case.

The NIA told the media that the one Kawasi had been arrested on August 8 2022, a day after the encounter between the security forces and armed cadres of the CPI Maoist near Bogla Pangur forest area. The security forces managed to seize a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the possession of Kawasi.

Kawasi has been charged by the NIA under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. A chargesheet in connection with the case has been filed before a special court of the National Investigation Agency.
