India's Deputy NSA Discusses Modi's Upcoming Ukraine Visit with Zelenskyy's Aide
India's Deputy National Security Advisor, Pavan Kapoor, recently met with Andriy Yermak, the top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv. The discussions primarily centred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anticipated visit to Ukraine this month. According to a statement from Kyiv, Yermak highlighted the significance of achieving a just peace for Ukraine and expressed hope for India's involvement in this process.

Focus on Peace and Diplomacy
During the meeting, Yermak detailed the current situation on the frontline and the impact of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, including a recent strike on Kostyantynivka. He underscored the importance of restoring peace and invited Modi to contribute to these efforts. "The Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, met with the Deputy National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India, Pavan Kapoor," stated the readout.
People familiar with the matter revealed that both sides also discussed Modi's planned visit to Kyiv later this month. The prime minister is expected to engage in talks with Zelenskyy amidst renewed global efforts to find a resolution to Russia's war on Ukraine. This visit is tentatively scheduled around Ukraine's National Day on August 24, and Modi may also travel to Poland as part of his two-nation tour.
Previous Engagements
In June, Modi held discussions with Zelenskyy during the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. During this meeting, Modi assured Zelenskyy that India would continue supporting a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. He reiterated India's belief in a human-centric approach to resolving the crisis.
India has consistently advocated for resolving the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means. Modi's potential visit underscores India's commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region. However, there has been no official announcement regarding this trip yet.
The proposed visit by Modi aims to bolster diplomatic efforts and explore pathways to end the ongoing conflict. It reflects India's proactive stance in international peacekeeping and its dedication to humanitarian principles.
