Exit Polls 2024: PM Modi's BJP Eyes Hat-Trick, Gains Ground In South, Bengal & Odisha

The conclusion of the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha election this evening has brought forth historic predictions in exit polls, suggesting a potential third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Among these forecasts, one exit poll has even surpassed the NDA's dream score of 400 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, although the BJP falls short of its target of 370 seats.

Additionally, the INDIA bloc is projected to fall significantly short of the 285 seats predicted by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge earlier in the evening. Aggregate data from seven exit polls indicates that the NDA is expected to secure 361 seats, while the INDIA bloc is predicted to attain 145 seats.

Individually, the BJP is forecasted to secure 311 seats, while the Congress is expected to increase its tally to 63 seats from the 52 seats won in the previous general election. Notably, the maximum number of seats projected for the NDA is 371-401 in the exit poll conducted by India TV-CNX, which also predicts that the Opposition bloc will secure 109-139 seats.

A similar projection is presented by Jan ki Baat, which foresees 362-392 seats for the NDA and 141-161 seats for the INDIA bloc. On the lower end of the spectrum, Dainik Bhaskar's exit poll presents a more conservative estimate, suggesting 281-350 seats for the NDA, with a corresponding projection of 145-201 seats for the INDIA bloc.

It is important to note that while exit polls provide insights, they are not always accurate in predicting election outcomes. Despite the variations in projections, all exit polls unanimously agree on the NDA's improved performance in the southern and Bengal regions. In Andhra Pradesh, for instance, the alliance with Chandrababu Naidu is predicted to yield favourable results, with the NDA expected to secure 18 of the state's 25 seats.

Similarly, Karnataka and Telangana are anticipated to strongly favour the BJP, with the latter potentially securing over half of the state's 17 seats. Moreover, the BJP is expected to make significant strides in states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bengal, and Odisha. Overall, the BJP is projected to maintain its dominance in key states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, and the national capital.

However, some shifts are expected in states like Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, where the Opposition may gain ground. As the nation awaits the final results, the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
