India Strikes Back: 9 Terror Sites Hit in Pakistan, PoK Under 'Operation Sindoor'
In a swift and decisive response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national, the Indian Armed Forces have launched a focused military operation named 'Operation Sindoor', the Ministry of Defence announced on Monday.
"These measures follow the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national were brutally killed. We remain firmly committed to ensuring that those behind this atrocity are brought to justice," the statement read.
The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) - areas long believed to be staging grounds for cross-border terrorism directed at India. In total, nine terror-linked sites were hit as part of the operation.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence emphasised that the action was "focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature", highlighting India's restraint and precision in execution. "No Pakistani military facilities were targeted," the statement added, underlining that the Indian response was aimed squarely at terrorist elements, not at the Pakistani military.
The Ministry further noted that India's actions were in line with its commitment to holding the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack accountable. That incident, described as "barbaric", had shaken the nation and prompted widespread calls for justice and retribution.
"We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable," the Ministry stated.
A detailed official briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today, which will provide more information about the execution, impact, and strategic intent behind the targeted strikes.
This marks another chapter in India's evolving counter-terror doctrine, which has in recent years seen calibrated and cross-border military responses to attacks on Indian soil - a posture designed to deter and degrade the infrastructure of terrorism across the Line of Control.
