Bullet Train Targeted To Start By August 2027
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier stated that the first bullet train is expected to begin operations by August 2027.
"You are all aware how work on the bullet train is progressing speedily. It is going very smoothly in Gujarat - wire ducts have been completed, girders installed, and work on the tracks and electric wiring is in progress. Recently, Japanese Minister Nakano visited Gujarat and reviewed the progress of the project. We have set a target to run the first bullet train by August 2027," Vaishnaw said while addressing the first Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference at Ganpat University in Mehsana.

Officials have indicated that major construction activities are progressing rapidly, especially in Gujarat, where several civil and track-related works are already underway.
Corridor To Include Multiple Mountain Tunnels
The high-speed rail corridor will also feature extensive tunnel infrastructure. According to project details, eight mountain tunnels are being constructed as part of the route.
Seven of these tunnels are located in Maharashtra with a combined length of 6.05 kilometres, while one tunnel in Gujarat will extend about 350 metres.
The corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad while introducing high-speed rail technology to India for the first time.
