India Regrets Intrusion At Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Amid Hindu Monk Arrest Protests
India has expressed regret over the intrusion at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. This incident was triggered by protests against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasised that diplomatic properties should remain untouched and announced plans to bolster security at Bangladeshi missions across India.
The breach occurred during a large rally in Tripura's capital, where thousands protested Das's arrest and attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. "The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable," stated the MEA.

Security Measures for Diplomatic Missions
Reports suggest that over 50 protesters entered the mission's premises, raising concerns among officials. In response, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi lodged a formal protest. The MEA confirmed that security measures are being enhanced at Bangladeshi diplomatic missions throughout India.
The government reiterated its stance that diplomatic and consular properties should never be targeted. Additional steps are being taken to ensure the safety of these missions. The MEA shared their statement on social media, highlighting their commitment to protecting consular properties.
Concerns Over Rising Extremism
This incident follows India's previous statements about rising extremist rhetoric and violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. On Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed India's serious concerns over these developments. "India has consistently and strongly raised with the Bangladesh government the threats and targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities," he said.
Jaiswal added, "We are concerned at the surge of extremist rhetoric, increasing incidents of violence and provocation. These developments cannot be dismissed only as media exaggeration." India has urged for a fair and transparent legal process for Chinmoy Krishna Das, who faces sedition charges after his arrest at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last week.
Tensions Between India and Bangladesh
Relations between India and Bangladesh have become strained recently, especially after Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was appointed head of Bangladesh's interim government following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's removal in August. India has repeatedly voiced concerns about minority treatment in Bangladesh, particularly regarding Hindus.
The situation remains tense as both nations navigate these complex issues. India's call for justice reflects its commitment to ensuring minority rights are upheld in neighbouring countries.
