India Ranks 12th on TasteAtlas' List of World’s Best Cuisines, Garam Masala Gets Special Mention
India, comprising 28 states and 8 Union Territories, offers a wide array of food choices. The Croatian experiential travel guide, TasteAtlas, has ranked India 12th on the list of the world's best cuisines.
The United States follows closely behind, ranking 13th, while South Korea holds 22nd place and Germany is at 23rd, reported Mint.

Greece claimed the top spot for the world's 100 best cuisines in 2024, with Italy, which held the number one position in 2023, now in second place. These rankings were based on 477,287 valid ratings for 15,478 dishes in *TasteAtlas*'s database, with the highest-rated cuisines placed accordingly.
Dishes That Captured Hearts
TasteAtlas has recommended several Indian dishes as "must-try," including Amritsari Kulcha, Butter Garlic Naan, Hyderabadi Biryani, and Murgh Makhani.
Of these, Amritsari Kulcha and Butter Garlic Naan, types of Indian bread, particularly impressed with ratings of 4.7 and 4.6 out of 5, respectively. Murgh Makhani and Hyderabadi Biryani both earned a rating of 4.5.
'Garam Masala' - A Must-Try Spice
In addition to these dishes, India's ranking is also attributed to a quintessential Indian spice: Garam Masala. This spice blend, which includes cinnamon and cardamom, is widely used in Indian cooking and has become a staple in many recipes. TasteAtlas rated Garam Masala 4.6 out of 5, listing it as a must-try.
The guide also highlighted several 'Iconic Traditional Restaurants' in India where one can experience the diversity of Indian cuisine, including Dum Pukht in New Delhi, Glenary's in Darjeeling, Ram Ashraya in Mumbai, and Shree Thaker Bhojanalay in Mumbai.
India was ranked 11th on TasteAtlas's list of the world's best cuisines in 2023.
