India's Contribution to Affordable Global Healthcare Highlighted by Union Health Minister

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that India provides 42 out of the 90 globally recognized cancer medications at the lowest costs. He made these remarks during his speech at Sanjeevani: United Against Cancer's inauguration ceremony.

In a recent announcement, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed that India provides 42 out of the total 90 cancer medications at the most affordable rates. The statement was made during his speech at the inauguration of Sanjeevani: United Against Cancer, an initiative jointly launched by Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, News18 Network and Tata Trusts.

Expanding Healthcare Infrastructure

Affordable Cancer Medicines in India

Mandaviya highlighted how the government is concentrating on expanding healthcare infrastructure in terms of increasing the number of cancer hospitals and tertiary care facilities. He emphasized that their approach towards health sector development is all-encompassing and comprehensive.

To achieve this goal, he said, "We have increased the number of MBBS and post-graduate medical seats and colleges, and created medical educational resources." He also mentioned about Ayushman Bharat health infrastructure mission which is working towards enhancing healthcare services in India.

The Pharma Policy Launch

The Union Health Minister also shed light on the recently launched pharma policy. "We are the pharmacy of the world in generic medicines," stated Mandaviya while speaking about India's significant role in global pharmaceutical industry.

Health as Seva Service

Mandaviya strongly asserted that health can never be seen as a political subject or commercialized. Instead it should be viewed as 'seva service' for India. He further added that with changing times, diseases patterns change too hence it is important to adopt a holistic approach towards dealing with them.

Merging Health with Development

Drawing attention to one of their key strategies since 2014 - merging health with development - Mandaviya explained how instead of just opening dispensaries they focused on making health services accessible to all citizens. This move wasn't merely symbolic but a significant gesture towards ensuring health for all.

In conclusion, the Union Health Minister's speech underscored India's commitment to provide affordable healthcare services, especially in the field of cancer treatment. The ongoing efforts to expand medical infrastructure and education, coupled with initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and recently launched pharma policy signify India's holistic approach towards health sector development. Mandaviya’s emphasis on viewing health as 'seva service' rather than a political or commercial subject further reiterates government's dedication to make healthcare accessible for every citizen. Indeed, these efforts are crucial steps in transforming India into a healthier nation.
