Congress Leader Foresees Political Unrest in India, References Bangladesh

Senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma has made controversial remarks, suggesting that people in India might one day storm the Prime Minister's official residence. This comment has led the BJP's youth wing to demand legal action against him.

Predicted Unrest in India by Congress Leader

During a Congress protest in Indore on Tuesday, Verma referred to recent events in Bangladesh. He mentioned that TV news channels reported people entering the Prime Minister's residence there due to the policies of deposed PM Sheikh Hasina. "Remember Narendra Modi ji, one day people will enter the Prime Minister's residence because of your wrong policies, and will occupy it," Verma said.

Comparison with Neighbouring Countries

Verma drew parallels with incidents in Sri Lanka in 2022 and Bangladesh, suggesting that India could face similar unrest. He was addressing Congress workers during a protest against alleged scams in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC).

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) was quick to respond. Angered by Verma's comments, BJYM's Indore city president Saugat Mishra and other activists submitted a representation to officials at the MG Road police station on Wednesday. They demanded a case be registered against Verma for his remarks.

Legal Actions and Reactions

Mishra accused Verma of using anti-national language and hurting the sentiments of 140 crore Indians. "Verma compared the situation in Bangladesh, which has seen large-scale violence recently, with that in India and made an anti-national statement," Mishra stated.

Additional DCP Zone-3 Ramsanehi Mishra confirmed that BJYM had lodged a complaint regarding Verma's speech during Tuesday's protest. "The complaint will be looked into," he said. Video footage of Verma's statement will be reviewed, and legal advice sought before any further action is taken.

Mishra also claimed that Congress leaders are making such comments to stay in media headlines. The BJYM leader maintained that these statements are aimed at gaining attention rather than addressing real issues.

The incident has sparked significant political controversy, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the Congress and BJP parties in Madhya Pradesh. The outcome of the legal review and potential actions against Verma remain to be seen.

This development underscores the volatile nature of political discourse in India, where statements by leaders can quickly escalate into major controversies. The response from both parties indicates a deepening divide and heightened sensitivity to political rhetoric.
