India, Pakistan Agree To Ceasefire, But Tensions Persist In J&K | Key Pointers

India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an agreement to immediately halt all hostilities across land, air, and sea, following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile exchanges.

In an unexpected move, the ceasefire was first announced on social media by US President Donald Trump, and was later formally confirmed by India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri.

"After a long night of US-brokered discussions, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," Trump posted on Truth Social.

"Congratulations to both countries for employing Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he added.

However, just hours after the announcement, multiple drones were spotted over Jammu and Kashmir during the night, accompanied by the sound of explosions.

Security forces responded by activating air defence systems to neutralise the threat.

At an emergency press briefing held at 11pm, Misri confirmed that Pakistan had breached the ceasefire in the evening, and stated that the armed forces had issued a proportionate and suitable response.

* The affected districts include Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Pathankot, Patiala, Moga, Kapurthala, and Muktsar.

* In a statement released at 5:24am, the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar confirmed that while electricity had been restored in the city, a red alert remains in effect.

"We've restored power for your convenience, but we remain on red alert. Sirens will now sound to indicate this alert. Please do not leave your homes; remain indoors and stay away from windows. We will notify you when it is safe. Your cooperation is appreciated-please remain calm," the statement read, as reported by ANI.

In addition to Punjab, several cities in Gujarat also announced blackout measures. Kutch, Jamnagar, Santalpur Taluka, Patan, and Banaskantha districts were affected.
"Several drones have been sighted in Kutch district. A full blackout is now being enforced. Please stay safe and avoid panic," wrote Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, in a post on X.

In Rajasthan, blackout orders were also reinstated in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer as a precautionary step after they had earlier been lifted, according to PTI.

In Nagrota, Jammu and Kashmir, an army personnel was injured on Saturday evening after an encounter with a suspicious individual near the city's military station perimeter, the White Knight Corps reported.

Amid the escalating tensions, Pakistan's foreign ministry stated that it "remains committed to faithfully implementing" the ceasefire and accused India of violations.

"Despite India committing violations in certain areas, our forces are managing the situation with responsibility and restraint," the statement said, as reported by AFP.

Meanwhile, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that operations at Delhi Airport are continuing without disruption.

"Delhi Airport operations are running smoothly. However, due to changing airspace conditions and heightened security measures mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, passengers may experience changes to flight schedules and extended wait times at security checkpoints," DIAL stated.
