India Indicates Conditional Approach to Reviving Russia-India-China RIC Framework
India has suggested that the revival of the Russia-India-China (RIC) mechanism will depend on the mutual convenience of all three nations. This statement was made shortly after China expressed support for Russia's proposal to restart the RIC format, highlighting its benefits for regional security and stability.

China's Support for RIC
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated that cooperation among China, Russia, and India not only serves their interests but also promotes regional and global peace and stability. Lin mentioned China's willingness to maintain communication with Russia and India to advance trilateral cooperation.
Current Status of RIC Meetings
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that the timing of any RIC meeting would be determined by mutual agreement among the three countries. Currently, no meeting has been scheduled, and discussions on this matter are not underway.
Russia's Perspective on RIC
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko mentioned that Moscow is keen on resuming the RIC format and is in talks with Beijing and New Delhi about it. He emphasized the importance of this format due to the significant partnership among these countries, who are also BRICS founders.
Historical Context of RIC
The RIC framework has faced interruptions due to the Covid pandemic and military tensions between India and China along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted these challenges last year. Traditionally, foreign ministers from these nations have met periodically under this framework to discuss various issues.
The future of the RIC mechanism remains uncertain as it awaits a consensus among India, Russia, and China. The potential revival could strengthen their collaboration on regional and international matters.
