'India is My Country Too', Says Canada-Based Singer Shubh After Concert Cancellation

Shubhneet Singh, the Punjabi-Canadian rapper known as Shubh, is currently facing a significant backlash due to a controversial social media post. This controversy has arisen amid diplomatic tensions between India and Canada.

Meanwhile, Shubh's 'Still Rollin India tour' has been canceled amidst allegations of his support for the Khalistan cause.

In an Instagram statement, Shubhneet Singh expressed profound disappointment about the cancellation of his India tour. He mentioned that he had diligently prepared for this tour over the past two months and was eagerly looking forward to performing in India.

Taking to his Instagram page, the rapper posted, "As a young rapper-singer from Punjab, it has always been my life's dream to showcase my music on an international stage. However, recent events have thrown a wrench into my hard work and progress, and I would like to express my sadness and disappointment."

"I am deeply disheartened by the cancellation of my tour in India. I was immensely excited and eager to perform in my homeland, in front of my fellow countrymen. The preparations were in full swing, and I had poured my heart and soul into practicing for the last two months. I was genuinely thrilled and ready to perform. But it seems fate had other plans," he added in his post.

Referring to India as his homeland, he stated that his "ancestors and Gurus didn't hesitate" when it came to making sacrifices for the country's freedom.

"India is MY country too. I was born here. It is the land of my GURUS and my ANCESTORS, who didn't even blink an eye to make sacrifices for the freedom of this land, for its glory, and for the family. And Punjab is my soul, Punjab flows in my veins. Everything I am today, I owe to being a Punjabi," he further expressed in his Instagram post.

Regarding the controversy surrounding his earlier post that sparked anger, Shubhneet clarified that his initial intention was to offer prayers for Punjab due to reports of electricity shutdowns in the state. He emphasized that he had no intention of causing offense or hurting anyone's sentiments.

The singer conveyed that the accusations against him had a profound impact on him, deeply affecting him.

Furthermore, BookMyShow announced on Wednesday that Shubhneet's 'Still Rollin Tour for India' had been canceled.

In a statement shared on X, BookMyShow stated, "Singer Shubhneet Singh's Still Rollin Tour for India has been canceled. Accordingly, BookMyShow has initiated a full refund of the ticket amount for all customers who had purchased tickets for the show. The refund will be processed within 7-10 working days to the customer's original transaction source."

The ticket-booking platform faced a social media backlash for hosting a singer who had been labeled as an alleged sympathizer of the Khalistani movement following his earlier controversial post.

Earlier on Wednesday, #UninstallBookMyShow began trending on X, with some users branding Shubh as a 'Khalistani'.

The rapper had posted a distorted map of India on his Instagram stories with the caption "Pray for Punjab," which appears to have triggered the controversy.

Reportedly, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli unfollowed Shubhneet on Instagram in response to the backlash.

Diplomatic relations between India and Canada became strained when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement in the fatal shooting of wanted Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Monday. This accusation further escalated tensions between the two nations.

India, however, rejected the allegations made by the Trudeau administration, describing them as "absurd" and "motivated."
