India Imparting Training To Myanmar’s Power Sector Professionals

India has always been very friendly particularly towards its neighbour in South Asia. It has been helping them in all sector under its "Neighbourhood First" policy. In a similar gesture, India has been conducting training programs for power sector professionals from Myanmar.

India's largest power generation company National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is now conducting the fifth such program under India-Myanmar Government-to-Government Framework for Cooperation in Power Sector, as part of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program, the leading capacity building platform of India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Out of the five programs, four have been completed. All four of them received a very good response from the power sector professionals of Myanmar. The programs have been conducted on smart grids, cross-border energy trading, electric vehicles, batteries and charging stations and micro-grids. The first two were conducted in March-April 2023 and the other two in June this year.

The last of these five programs, on "Solar Energy & Photovoltaic (PV) System," began with the inaugural function at the SCOPE Convention Centre in New Delhi yesterday. Scheduled to conclude on June 23, the program aims to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge on solar PV projects, including technical components, economics, cost-benefit analysis, policy frameworks, project design, implementation and associated challenges.

The inaugural function was attended by India's Ambassador to Myanmar Vinay Kumar, NTPC Director-Finance J. Srinivasan, Director of Development Partnership Administration under MEA A. Bhattacharyya, Director of NTPC School of Business Dr Rajeshwari Narendran, Head of NTPC's International Business Development Dr J.S. Chandok and MEA Under-Secretary for Myanmar H. Sagar. They addressed the 20 participants, including 11 females, emphasizing the significance of the training program in fostering collaboration and enhancing skills in the power sector.

The collaboration between India and Myanmar under the ITEC Program shows the commitment of both the nations to strengthen bilateral relations and promote knowledge exchange in the power sector. NTPC conducting the training programs also demonstrates the company's dedication to sharing expertise and best practices to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions.
