India-China Complete Disengagement At Two Friction Points Along LAC
India and China have successfully concluded the disengagement process at the Depsang and Demchok areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Times Now reported citing sources.
This follows a sequence of thorough inspections and discussions to ensure the complete removal of infrastructures, adhering to the previously agreed terms between the two nations.

This step forward involved a series of high-level discussions beginning with diplomatic engagements followed by military negotiations, culminating in agreements solidified in the last week's Corps Commander-level talks. These discussions laid the groundwork for the eventual withdrawal of troops and dismantling of temporary structures, marking a significant move towards de-escalation in these regions.
In a move to foster transparency and build trust, residents from the Demchok village will be escorted to the recently disengaged areas, offering them a firsthand view of the restored peace. This initiative is part of the broader confidence-building measures that include subsequent aerial and physical verifications to ensure the integrity of the disengagement process.
The strategic pullback of Indian troops, which began post-agreement, saw them repositioning their equipment away from the contentious points, in line with the commitments made. This withdrawal signals the nearing completion of disengagement at these critical junctures, according to a report in PTI.
Despite the focus on Depsang and Demchok, negotiations for disengagement in other areas continue, suggesting that while significant progress has been made, the dialogue for peace and normalization along the LAC is ongoing. Once the disengagement is wholly achieved, both nations have agreed to resume patrolling, thereby reinstating the status to what it was before April 2020, with armed personnel ensuring the security and integrity of these areas.
The dismantling process includes the removal of temporary shelters and tents, integral to returning the sites to their pre-conflict conditions. This effort is part of the broader agreement on patrolling and troop withdrawal along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, marking a pivotal moment in resolving the protracted standoff that has spanned over four years.
Relations between India and China had reached a low point following the violent clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which was the most severe conflict witnessed by the two countries in several decades. The successful disengagement process not only alleviates immediate tensions but also sets a precedent for future negotiations and conflict resolution between the two Asian powers.
