INDIA Bloc Moves No-Confidence Vote Against Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar
The Congress-led INDIA opposition bloc, which includes parties like the Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, has filed a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar. Reportedly, the no confidence motion is supported by over 70 MPs, accusing Dhankhar of biased conduct in managing Rajya Sabha proceedings. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh stated that the decision was tough but essential to safeguard parliamentary democracy.
Trinamool MP Sagarika Ghosh criticised the government for suppressing discussions on public matters. However, the opposition's success seems unlikely as they lack a majority in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. A simple majority is needed for the motion to pass. The filing of this motion coincided with disruptions in Parliament over allegations involving Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's supposed connections to businessman George Soros and other issues causing adjournments.

Opposition Faces Challenges
The BJP has accused the opposition of hindering Parliament's operations. In contrast, opposition members claim they are being blocked from discussing vital issues like violence in Uttar Pradesh and farmers' protests. The controversy surrounding Soros and Gandhi intensified when BJP's JP Nadda raised national security concerns. Congress members disputed these claims and criticised the Rajya Sabha Chair's management of the situation.
Additionally, BJP has targeted Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of trying to destabilise India. The Congress party denies these allegations, affirming their loyalty to the nation. Meanwhile, the US government addressed accusations of influencing Indian politics through funding independent organisations. They clarified that their support aims at journalism development without affecting editorial choices.
Political Tensions Rise
The political climate remains tense as both sides continue to exchange accusations. The opposition insists on addressing pressing issues while facing challenges in gaining traction for their motion due to their minority status in Parliament. Despite these hurdles, they remain committed to highlighting what they perceive as governmental shortcomings.
This ongoing conflict reflects deeper divisions within Indian politics, with each side steadfastly defending its position. As events unfold, it remains crucial for all parties involved to engage constructively for the benefit of parliamentary democracy and public interest.
