INDIA Bloc Lock Seat Sharing Deal For Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, Friendly Fight In 3 Constituencies

The INDIA bloc in Jharkhand is gearing up for a friendly contest in three assembly seats during the upcoming 2024 elections, according to leaders. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) have agreed to a friendly competition in Dhanwar. Meanwhile, Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are still negotiating to avoid similar contests in Chhattarpur and Bishrampur.

Jharkhand's 81-member Assembly elections will occur in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting on November 23. The JMM has nominated candidates for 43 seats, Congress for 30, RJD for six, and CPI-ML for four. "JMM, Congress, RJD and CPI-ML are jointly contesting the Jharkhand polls under INDIA bloc. Excluding three seats –Chhatarpur, Bishrampur and Dhanwar-, seat-sharing arrangements have been settled for all the constituencies in the alliance. The JMM has decided to go for a friendly contest with CPI-ML in Dhanwar seat," stated JMM general secretary Vinod Pandey.

Seat Sharing Arrangements

RJD and Congress have put forward their candidates for Chhattarpur and Bishrampur. Discussions are ongoing to resolve these issues amicably. "Discussions are still going on to sort out the issue on both the seats. We hope to see a result in a day or two," Pandey mentioned at a press conference held in Ranchi.

Under the INDIA bloc arrangement, RJD was allocated six seats while CPI-ML received three. Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh expressed confidence that they would contest together and aim to form the government again as part of the INDIA bloc.

Official Announcements Pending

The INDIA bloc has not yet officially announced their seat-sharing details. However, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren indicated on October 19 that they would contest together, with Congress and JMM fielding candidates in 70 out of the total 81 seats.

The remaining 11 seats are expected to be contested by RJD and other Left parties within the alliance framework. As preparations continue, all parties involved are working towards ensuring a smooth electoral process.
