India Art Fair announces dates for 2016 edition

New Delhi, Jul 23: The eighth edition of the India Art Fair, one of South Asia's biggest platform for modern and contemporary art, is scheduled to take place here from January 28, organisers announced on Thursday.

First launched in 2008, the Fair's upcoming four-day edition would see Zain Masud as its international director.

Masud, who served as Assistant Fair Director to Art Dubai for five years brings experience within the art scenes of the Middle East, South Asia, Russia, China and Africa, alongside her extensive networks within the Western art world," organisers said.

The event has also made a number of enhancements to its organisation including significant changes to its partnerships, internal team and gallery programming. German auto major BMW has been roped in as the Presenting Partner for the India Art Fair 2016.

In 2013, the BMW Guggenheim Lab - a global initiative of the BMW Group, together with the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation and the Guggenheim Museum, premiered in India at the Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai.

The upcoming edition of the IAF would be structured into 5 sections. The main section 'Galleries' would feature leading Indian and international galleries.

Solo presentations which have been curated by participating galleries or institutions would be showcased under 'Focus'.

The 'Institutional' section is set to showcase leading international and Indian museums and art foundations presenting elements of their programmes or collaborations commissioned specially for the fair.

The section 'Platform' would represent young emerging artists or collectives from throughout South Asia, open to galleries and foundations within the region while the final section 'Projects' would show artworks including large scale sculptures or site specific installations at the fair.
