India@70: 16 ITBP personnel awarded President's police medals
The 90,000-personnel strong Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is tasked with guarding the 3,488-km Sino-India frontier apart from rendering a variety of duties.
New Delhi, Aug 14: Sixteen ITBP officials have been awarded the President's police medals for distinguished and meritorious service on the eve of Independence Day.

The awardees of the distinguished service medal include Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Jaspal Singh and A K Negi and Inspector Om Prakash.
Thirteen others, including Commandant G C Purohit, have been awarded the President's police medals for meritorious service.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India, raised on 24 October 1962, under the CRPF Act, in the wake of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The ITBP was intended for deployment along India's border with China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
