Tax Department Conducts Search Operations at Orris Group's Premises Over Suspected Evasion
The Income Tax department searched properties of a real estate developer, the Orris Group, in Noida and Greater Nodia due to suspicions of tax evasion. The group had pending dues worth Rs 761.99 crore towards the Yamuna Expressway Authority as of February this year.
The Income Tax Department staged a raid on several premises linked to a real estate developer in Noida and Greater Noida over the weekend, following suspicions of tax evasion. The operation was conducted by officers from the North Western Region of the department, who targeted Orris Group and its associated companies.
Unfolding Investigation

The official spokesperson for the operation disclosed that searches were also executed at group sites in Gurugram on Friday as part of their ongoing investigation into suspected tax evasion. This forms part of a larger sweep by the Income Tax Department, which has seen multiple locations owned by different builders across Delhi-NCR raided over the past two days.
Orris Group's Troubled Past
In addition to these recent raids, Orris Group has had previous brushes with controversy. In 2011, they were allocated land for a group housing project known as Green Bay Golf Village located in Sector 22D of Yamuna Expressway Authority. However, as per local officials' reports, by February this year, Orris Group had accumulated significant arrears amounting to Rs 761.99 crore owed to Yamuna Expressway Authority - making them its largest defaulter within the group housing category.
Previous Controversies
This is not an isolated incident for Orris Group; it seems controversies are no stranger to this real estate giant. Back in June 2018, another scandal erupted when Noida Police registered an FIR against Greenbay Infrastructure Company (an affiliate company) accusing them of cheating and forgery of documents.
Implications for Real Estate Industry
The latest developments involving Orris Groups have sent ripples throughout India’s real estate industry - which is already grappling with issues such as stalled projects and liquidity crunch due to the ongoing pandemic. This situation underscores the importance of transparency and ethical business practices in this sector.
In conclusion, these recent events highlight a pressing need for stringent regulatory measures to ensure accountability and fair play within India's real estate industry. The actions taken by the Income Tax Department against Orris Group serve as a stern reminder to all stakeholders that unethical practices will not be tolerated and those found guilty of such offences will face severe consequences. As investigations continue, it remains to be seen what further revelations will surface about Orris Group's operations and whether other major players in the industry are also involved in similar malpractices.
