In Nagaland, Meghalaya, candidates got richer over 5 years

The candidates contesting the Nagaland and Meghalaya elections have got richer over the past five years. While in Nagaland the average assets of a candidate are Rs 4.31 crore, in Meghalaya it is Rs 11.9 crore.

The data has been provided by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

Nagaland:

• The number of Re-Contesting MLAs: Number of Re-Contesting MLAs analysed in the Nagaland assembly elections of 2018 is 53.
• Average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2013: The average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2013 was Rs 3.06 crores.
• Average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2018: The average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2018 is Rs 4.31 crores.
• Average growth in assets of Re-Contesting MLAs from 2013 to 2018: The growth in average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs is Rs 1.24 crores i.e. by 41%.

Meghalaya:

• Number of Re-Contesting MLAs: Number of Re-Contesting MLAs analysed in the Meghalaya assembly elections of 2018 is 57.
• Average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2013: The average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2013 was Rs 7.77 crores.
• Average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2018: The average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs in 2018 is Rs 11.19 crores.
• Average growth in assets of Re-Contesting MLAs from 2013 to 2018: The growth in average assets of Re-Contesting MLAs is Rs. 3.41 crores i.e. by 44%.
