In digital India do astrology programmes have a place?
Bengaluru, Dec 9: The Law Ministry of Karnataka would convene a meeting with the regional television channels in Karnataka to discuss the ban on astrology programmes.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Karnataka, T Jayachandra said that the a meeting would be convened soon to discuss the possibility of banning astrology programmes on Kannada channels.

The decision comes in the wake of Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah stating at a function that there is a need to ban such programmes. Such programmes are misleading, the chief minister had stated while stating that his government would ban the same.
Law ministry will work out modalities
Before a decision to ban astrology programmes is taken, the government would first meet with the representatives of the television channels and discuss the issue.
The law minister says that in this age when we speak of a digital India, it does not gel well to see people being taken for a ride in the name of astrology. Some of the programmes are very misleading the law minister also informed.
He also said that a report from Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra is being studied where the banning of superstitious practises is concerned.
We are looking into those reports and after examination by the law department a decision to ban some of those practises will be taken. A draft legislation too would be finalised by the Social Welfare Department he said.
