British Expert Stresses Quality Forensic Science for Just Verdicts
Quality forensic science is crucial to ensure victims receive justice and innocent individuals are not wrongfully punished, a British expert stated on Saturday. Professor Robert Green from the University of Kent, UK, emphasised this during a special lecture at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS) in Lucknow.

Professor Green, who received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2008 for his contributions to forensic science, discussed law, lab, and justice concepts with students at the state-run institute. He highlighted that evaluation, ideas, and critical thinking are vital in forensic science.
Importance of Forensic Science
Justice Rajiv Singh from the Allahabad High Court was the chief guest at the event. Addressing the students, he noted that forensic science once received little attention but has become increasingly critical with evolving crime methods. "There is a need to look at the evidence in the right way to punish the criminals," he said.
Globally, forensic science experienced its most significant growth in 1995. Before this period, it was not prioritised in 95 per cent of cases. However, as forensic science expanded, it created more employment opportunities in this field.
Role of Policies and Leadership
The professor stressed that good policies, visionary leadership, and awareness in the criminal justice process are essential for quality forensic science. "It is very important to have quality forensic science so that the victim can get proper justice and no innocent person is punished," he reiterated.
He also mentioned that what we believe to be true might not always be accurate. This underscores the importance of thorough evaluation and critical thinking in forensic investigations.
In his lecture, Professor Green emphasised that quality forensic science ensures justice for victims while protecting innocent individuals from wrongful punishment. He noted that forensic science's role has grown significantly over time.
The event highlighted the importance of looking at evidence correctly to ensure criminals are punished appropriately. The discussions aimed to inspire students to contribute effectively to the field of forensic science.
The lecture concluded with a focus on how forensic science's expansion has increased job opportunities and its critical role in modern criminal justice systems.
