IMD Weather Alert: Rain Showers Expected Over Northwest India Starting January 15
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for rainfall in northwest India starting from the night of January 14 due to a new western disturbance. This weather pattern is expected to bring isolated to scattered rain and snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh between January 16 and 19.
Uttarakhand is also predicted to experience rainfall from January 15 to 19. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to see isolated showers on January 15 and 16. Additionally, Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh might witness isolated hailstorms on January 15.

Weather Patterns in Southern India
A cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area is influencing weather conditions in southern India. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh until January 16.
In the past day, minimum temperatures have dropped by 1-5°C in parts of Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh. Similar drops were noted in isolated areas of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh. Conversely, temperatures rose by 1-3°C in Bihar, Saurashtra & Kutch, Odisha West Bengal & Sikkim.
Temperature Trends Across India
Minimum temperatures below freezing were recorded across many regions of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh. Himachal Pradesh saw temperatures between 2-5°C. In northwest and central India temperatures ranged from 6-12°C while east and west India experienced temperatures between 12-18°C. Amritsar reported the lowest temperature at 4.7°C on January 13.
The IMD forecasts no significant change in minimum temperatures over northwest India for the next two days followed by a gradual increase of 2-4°C. Central India and Maharashtra will see no major changes for the next day but expect a rise of 2-3°C thereafter.
Foggy Conditions Expected
Dense fog is likely during night or early morning hours across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh on January 14-15; Uttar Pradesh will experience similar conditions till January 15. Fog will also affect West Rajasthan East Rajasthan Bihar Uttarakhand Punjab Haryana Chandigarh Uttar Pradesh till January 20.
Cold wave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh on January 14. Fishermen are advised against venturing into South Sri Lanka coasts southeast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal Gulf of Mannar Comorin area from January 13-16 due to adverse weather conditions.
The IMD predicts no significant temperature changes over east India for the next five days. Dense fog may also occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal Sikkim Odisha Himachal Pradesh Assam Meghalaya Nagaland Manipur Mizoram Tripura on January 16.
