IMD Warns Of Dense Fog And Cold Days In Northwest India; Snowfall Expected Soon

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a fresh western disturbance will reach north India from January 4, bringing snowfall and rain to the region, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD stated that this disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from the night of January 4, causing scattered rainfall and snowfall in the western Himalayan region from January 1 to 3. Further widespread rainfall and snowfall are likely to occur on January 4 and 5.

Currently, cold wave conditions have subsided in most parts of north India, with only the western Himalayan region continuing to experience cooler weather. IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy explained that the severe weather conditions of December 27 and 28 have passed, and now, cold wave conditions are only present in isolated areas. The absence of strong winds has led to fog conditions across the region, which have since lifted and left low clouds.

The IMD also stated that the new western disturbance will cause a rise in the minimum temperature by 3-5 degrees in several parts of the region. This change is expected to affect areas such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, where rain is forecast.

In addition to the expected rainfall and snowfall, the IMD has warned of dense to very dense fog and cold day conditions over northwest India during the next two to three days. The cold wave conditions are also expected to continue in isolated pockets of Jammu and Kashmir.

Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions as the weather conditions change over the next few days, especially with the arrival of the western disturbance.
