IMA Applauds CBI Probe Into NEET-UG Irregularities - Here's Whom They Thanked
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) welcomed the government's decision on June 23 to transfer the investigation of alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam to the CBI.
Expressing appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior ministers for promptly addressing concerns related to exam controversies, the IMA thanked the Union Ministry of Education for assigning the CBI with the task of conducting a comprehensive inquiry. The statement was shared on the microblogging site X.

CBI Files FIR on NEET-UG Irregularities
On June 23, following demands from protesting students and amidst nationwide outcry and legal actions, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam. The move came a day after the Union education ministry referred the case to the CBI, responding to widespread concerns over paper leaks.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) also commended the government's decision to dismiss the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which had administered a retest for 1,563 students due to time loss at six exam centres, as reported by PTI. Highlighting the anomaly of 67 students scoring a perfect 720 marks, particularly six from a centre in Haryana's Faridabad, the IMA underscored suspicions of irregularities.
NEET-UG is crucial for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses across government and private institutions. The IMA's statement acknowledged the government's initiative to enact stringent laws addressing exam malpractices, including provisions for severe penalties such as imprisonment of up to 10 years and a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore for those involved in organized crime related to exam authorities or service providers.
Recognizing students as the future of India, the IMA stressed the importance of conducting competitive exams with utmost diligence and confidentiality. It expressed confidence that the challenges faced by NEET-PG aspirants would be addressed through promised reforms and called for a robust mechanism from authorities.
In response to recent integrity concerns affecting competitive exams, the health ministry postponed NEET-PG, originally slated for June 23, as a precautionary measure. The IMA urged swift government action to ensure the timely commencement of counselling for admissions in medical, dental, and allied courses, as per media reports.
