Iconic CSMT Becomes Central Hub for Jarange Supporters Amid Ongoing Maratha Quota Protests

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai is bustling with supporters of Manoj Jarange, who are protesting for Maratha quota reservations. Many face challenges due to civic issues and heavy rains.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai was lively as numerous supporters of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange gathered there on Friday night. They were preparing for the second day of their protest. Jarange began an indefinite fast at Azad Maidan earlier that day, demanding reservations for the Maratha community. Protesters criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for not providing essential facilities like washrooms and water.

Many protesters travelled from Jalna district's Antarwali Sarthi with Jarange on Wednesday. They came from Marathwada regions such as Beed, Latur, Parbhani, Nanded, and Osmanabad. Some found shelter in their vehicles parked near the BMC headquarters on Mahapalika Marg. Heavy rains added to their challenges, worsening the lack of civic amenities.

Protesters' Activities Amid Heavy Rains

Despite the rain, some supporters explored nearby areas like Gateway of India and Marine Drive. Others stayed at CSMT, resting in the subway or inside parked vehicles after a long journey. They spent the day supporting Jarange, who vowed to remain in Mumbai until the government granted Maratha reservations.

Groups of supporters cooked meals while others made video calls to update family members far away about the day's events. The authorities allowed a one-day extension to the protest, prompting some supporters to dance on streets leading to Azad Maidan. This celebration caused traffic congestion in the area.

Security Measures at CSMT

To manage the crowds, railway police, RPF, home guards, and Maharashtra Security Force personnel were stationed at CSMT and other railway stations. Meanwhile, several protesters took refuge in vehicles they arrived in, parked along Mahapalika Marg near BMC headquarters.

The bustling scene at CSMT reflected the determination of Jarange's supporters despite adverse conditions. Their commitment was evident as they continued to rally behind Jarange's cause for Maratha reservations amidst heavy rains and limited facilities.
