IAS Tina Dabi's '5 Bows in 7 Seconds' Gesture to BJP Leader Goes Viral
Tina Dabi, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who achieved the top rank in the 2015 UPSC Civil Services Examination, has found herself back in the limelight. A viral video making the rounds on social media features Dabi bowing before BJP leader Satish Poonia, eliciting a range of responses.
In the footage, Dabi, who is currently serving as the district collector of Barmer, Rajasthan, respectfully greets Satish Poonia, the former president of the Rajasthan BJP, by bowing multiple times. In just seven seconds, she bows five times, prompting Poonia to commend her efforts, stating, "Barmer will become just like Indore. You are doing great work."

The video has ignited a discussion on social platforms. While some users lauded Dabi's gesture as a demonstration of respect, others raised concerns about the dynamics between politicians and bureaucrats. One user noted, "The Collector of Barmer district, Rajasthan... DM Sahiba Tina Dabi bowed down in honor, which reflects her good values." Another remarked, "There's no harm in bowing one's head. This shows #TinaDabi's decency and respect for public leaders."
A different social media user pointed out Dabi's esteemed reputation, stating, "Tina Dabi gained international recognition for her administrative skills. If she appreciates compliments from an MLA, is that bowing or simply an act of respect?"
Since topping the UPSC on her first attempt, Dabi has become a significant figure in Indian civil services, starting her career as District Collector in Ajmer in 2017. Her personal life has also drawn attention; her younger sister, Ria Dabi, successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2020, securing the 15th rank on her first attempt.
