Hyderabad: Father commits suicide, leaves debt, uncertain future and a Sorry for kids

Hyderabad, Sept 8: 12-year-old Vinoda and her younger brother Naveen have been left with an uncertain future. Their mother passed away without any treatment and now their father committed suicide.

The two siblings, residents of Telangana's Medak district, recalled the moment when their father consumed poison and his last word was "Sorry".

Balanarasaiah, who was a cotton farmer, drunk pesticide. He survived by two children, his mother Lakshmi and a debt of Rs 3 lakh.

Lakshmi was scared and worried about the future of the children. She feared that the children might be forced to work as a bonded labourers.

"There were just too many loans to repay... That is why my father died,'' said Vinoda.

Balanarsaiah could not arrange money for his wife's treatment and she died in 2014. Later he was forced to take loans to save standing cotton crop on his one-and-a-half-acre plot.

While Lakshmi and Vinoda remained scared, Naveen was quoted as saying, "When my mother was alive, she did everything for us. Now we have to manage ourselves."
