How UP government is planning to wish New Year to 'eve-teasers' & women?

Lucknow, Dec 30: As the law and order problem and crimes against women remain one of the top concers in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party- led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has decided a unique way to wish "Happy New Year" to eve-teasers.

According to media reports, Uttar Pradesh police has identified 9 lakh youths from its database of last 3 years, who have been charged on eve-easing cases.

On Thursday, Dec 31, all of them will receive a text message on their mobile phones from UP Police saying, "Happy New Year, but beware, your number and information is saved with us. An attempt to trouble any female (sic) again will draw legal action."

In an attempt to ensure that the women in the state feel safe and secure, the UP police will also send messages to 5 lakh women, who have filed harassment cases at women's helpline number 1090.

Those women will receive this text message, "Happy New Year. You are our dear citizen and we will always be there to help you."

UP police have also launched '1090 Shakti' a mobile app for women in distress.
