How ‘Godman’ Chhangur Baba Allegedly Funded 1,000 Men To Lure Hindu Girls Across UP

Self-proclaimed godman Jalaluddin, also known as Chhangur Baba, has been accused of orchestrating a large-scale religious conversion racket in Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, Chhangur Baba allegedly financed over 1,000 Muslim men to lure Hindu girls under the guise of relationships, a pattern widely referred to as "love jihad."

Investigators with the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) say Chhangur Baba received approximately ₹500 crore from foreign sources-mainly from Muslim-majority countries-over the past three years to fund the operation. The money was reportedly transferred to individuals in at least seven districts across UP, with cross-border channels near the Indo-Nepal border playing a key role in distribution.

In addition to monetary support for the men involved, ATS sources claim that Chhangur directly paid Muslim youths who successfully enticed Hindu women into conversions.

Authorities have also arrested his close aide, Neetu alias Nasreen, who is believed to have managed foreign funds and coordinated domestic disbursements. Both Chhangur and Neetu are now in seven-day ATS custody. Officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) are expected to join the investigation to trace the flow of foreign money and potential international links.

Chhangur's son, Mehboob alias Naveen, and another associate, Jamaluddin, were arrested earlier and are currently lodged in Lucknow District Jail.

The ATS has initiated a financial probe into all bank accounts associated with Chhangur Baba, Nasreen, Mehboob, and Naveen. Authorities believe the funds were used not just for conversions but also to acquire property. Investigators have flagged suspicious land deals involving Chhangur Baba and suspect the use of his son's accounts for high-value transactions.

Additionally, the agency is tracking possible foreign bank accounts held by Chhangur Baba in places like Sharjah, Dubai, and other UAE jurisdictions.

As part of the crackdown, a sprawling ₹5 crore mansion owned by Chhangur Baba in Balrampur was demolished. Built illegally on government land, the 40-room structure with a marble security gate was razed using 10 bulldozers over three days.

The investigation is ongoing as agencies dig deeper into funding networks and the scale of the alleged conversion operation.
